A destination wedding like no other! Imagine being whisked away to a wedding on a remote island with less than 1000 residents on it, there’s no taxi, no public transport, but lots of fun! Read on to find out more about Jericho and Billy’s romantic wedding on Great Barrier Island.
About Jericho & Billy
Jez and Billy met each other at a music festival in Cambridge while Jez was living in London and Billy took a year off from work to travel around the world. Afterwards, they shared a sweet nine-month around-the-world romance and Jez decided to move to where Billy was at – Australia. They were engaged for 2 years and they had one of the most adventurous proposals ever! Jez had to climb up a mountain with her mother in a downpour to meet Billy when he got down on his knee and asked for her hand in marriage.
He has lived such a big life so far, and it’s such an honour to be creating a life with a person you are aligned with at such a base level!”

The Wedding Planning Process
The couple chose the venue as Jez’s father owns a property and it is a very meaningful and significant place for both Billy and herself. Great Barrier Island is an island where homes run on solar energy. This meant that in order to hold a wedding, there are a lot of planning and logistics that needed to be sorted out. From guests to flowers, transportation had to be arranged. Luckily for them, Jez is very experienced with event management so she planned the whole wedding and love every bit of it. For their wedding, they wanted something vintage mixed with bohemian and beachy vibe – totally relaxed and carefree.

The Wedding Day
Jez & Billy planned a five-day wedding on Great Barrier Island (a destination wedding at its best!) and for guests, it was truly a getaway from the bustling city life. Dried flowers were used for this wedding so as to align with the vintage vibes. Chasewild Photography, a WedElf Vendor We Love, was responsible for the actual day wedding shoot. James was really cool and chill, the photos turned out to be nothing but wonderful – truly capturing the bohemian wedding and carefree newlyweds.
The Wedding Gown
Jez chose a gown from Flora, an Israeli bridal label. It is a sweetheart neckline dress with spaghetti straps. Fitted to the waist and then flows down gently to the floor, the silk dress is covered with intricately handmade lace, understated but beautiful. It is a dress that Jez felt vert comfortable in. Paired with boots and a veil made by Jez’s mom, it was a perfect fit for their vintage & island wedding theme.
The vast majority of our guests had never been to Great Barrier before so it was a great opportunity to bring them to the island and ensure we had a true destination wedding where people came to stay and enjoy for a good few days.”
Advice to couples
Jez and Billy planned a yearlong honeymoon after their wedding and this gave them ample time to reflect on their wedding, their life as well as to get to know each other even better. Honeymoons are important but so is your big day! Remember to have a wedding that truly reflects who you both are as a couple! Trust us when we say this is very important!
The fun is just beginning, and don’t believe there isn’t more to discover now that your husband and wife.”
