Genevieve and Joshua’s wedding was a true reflection of who they are as a couple. Their celebration was filled with personalized details, an intimate guest count, and stunning rustic scenery. Keep reading to discover more about this Australian couple’s rustic wine country wedding in Yarra Valley.
About the Couple
Genevieve and Joshua met through work. It was Genevieve’s first day of her new full-time job as an accountant and she was assigned to the same workgroup as Joshua. They sat across from each other in the office for a full year. Although they felt an instant connection, they remained just friends for over a year before they kissed at a bar one night.
When it came time to propose, Joshua planned a special picnic at Polperro winery. They arrived at the winery around midday, so no one else was there. Joshua set up the picnic in a secluded spot by the water, before getting the ring box out of his jacket pocket and proposing. “It was better than I could have ever imagined,” shares Genevieve.
A Small, Intimate Affair
Having an intimate wedding was a priority for Genevieve and Joshua. This is why they settled on a guest count of fewer than 70 people. Having great food and wine was another priority for the couple, which is why getting married in Australian wine country (known as the Yarra Valley) was a no brainer. Specifically, the couple said “I do” at Immerse in the Yarra Valley. According to Genevieve, Immerse’s on-site wedding chapel was magical. Not to mention the stunning vineyard setting where the couple and their photographer enjoyed a sunset photoshoot.
We really wanted a simple style with a bit of a rustic feel, just simple but beautiful!”
In terms of decor, Genevieve and Joshua were after a simple, rustic theme that would complement the natural surroundings. The result was a ceremony with two oversized arrangements of greenery and white and orange flowers. For the reception, square wooden boxes of delphinium, roses, hydrangea, dahlias, and greens adorned tables. There was also a hedge of trailing florals along the front edge of the head table.
Personalized Touches
Personalized details included writing their own vows and askings, having the wedding party take their seats rather than standing beside the couple during the ceremony and the last song. The last song of the night was “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, which Genevieve and Joshua danced to the night of their first kiss. Another personal touch we loved? The customized wine corks with the couple’s name on them, which served as wedding favours.
The Lace Dress
Genevieve looked absolutely gorgeous on her wedding day. This was in part due to her stunning gown, designed by Madi Lane and purchased from Luv Bridal & Formal. “I wanted something different which is why I loved the unique lace on my dress. I also wanted something loose-fitting, so I knew I would feel comfortable on the day,” shares Genevieve. The dress featured spaghetti straps, an A-line skirt, a plunging neckline, and an intricate lace overlay. Genevieve’s bridal look was finished off with a rustic white and green bouquet that contained pops of orange.
I feel like we were able to really personalize our whole ceremony and it made it so special. It was exactly what we wanted and was just us!”
Tips for Future Brides
Now that her wedding is over, Genevieve has some helpful tips to offer future brides. First, she advises couples to try their best to enjoy every moment of the wedding. When it’s all over, you’ll wish you could do it again. Second, she recommends not stressing over the little things. When you look back on the day, you will only think of the magical moments, not the insignificant things that didn’t go according to plan.
