From workmates to soulmates, read on to find out the beautiful love story of Isabella and Matthew. Take a glimpse inside their intimate wedding at Newman College Chapel.
An Unlikely Beginning
Most of us are familiar with the love/hate relationship we often have with our first bosses — but not all of us can say that we wound up marrying that same person. In the case of Isabella Pomazan & Matthew James Griffiths, however, that’s exactly how it happened. They first met as workmates, but the relationship soon progressed. Despite the fact that the then-young Isabella didn’t take orders very well, when they had their first date, her one-time boss was keen to sweep her off her feet: and he did just that. Matthew provided flowers, chocolates, a nice restaurant, a walk along the beach, and a night spent talking. What more could you want?
A Fairytale Proposal
The proposal itself had the potential to be a bit annoying. Matt had been holding ‘meetings’ all day long and returned home decidedly late to his beloved. Little did the somewhat irate Isabella know, however, that those meetings were actually spent asking her father, mother, and sisters for her hand in marriage. After half of a dinner — cut short due to his own excitement — Matt surprised her on one (shaking) knee, with an engagement ring and a giant bunch of pink and red roses. To say he’d knocked the ball out of the park would be the understatement of the century.
The Customized Dress
No wedding is complete without a stunning dress, and Isabella stayed true to her childhood dream of being a princess for the day. Despite the fact that she knew lace wasn’t exactly her thing, she was nonetheless able to find the perfect centrepiece. This was done with a little help from her mother and expert dressmaker Michael Todorovski. A fairytale puffy bottom, combined with custom calico, ensured that the day would be the happiest of the bride’s life. It’s not hard to see how successful it was. In the photos, she’s nothing short of radiant.
The Hip Ceremony with Personal Touches
The wedding concept was chic and forward-thinking. As well as a polaroid film camera for spicing up the wedding guestbook, there were even bottles of scotch on the tables. The final touch was loose leaf tea for the guests to take home afterwards. The venue was a stunning, grand church, which was completely in keeping with the regal elegance the bride was radiating on the day. Etta James’s classic ‘At Last’ scored the first dance and sent the couple off in fine fashion to their Mexico honeymoon.
Isabella’s Advice for Other Brides
As far as advice goes, Isabella would like other brides-to-be to remember that at the end of the day, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself. She smiled so much at her wedding that her jaw ached by the end of it — why shouldn’t your day be every bit as special? Weddings can be stressful, of course, and there are bound to be a few small issues that pop up here and there. But that doesn’t mean you need to worry too much. Don’t forget that it’s all in your hands, and problems are only as big as you make them. If you need to take a couple of minutes out at various points to take a few deep breaths and remember everything that’s going on, that’s okay. It’s your day, after all.
Something We Could All Learn from Isabella and Matthew
Isabella and Matthew’s relationship started in the most unlikely of ways, but they refused to let that hold them back. We could all learn a lesson from how bravely, how decisively they loved each other and continue to love each other — and it’s that same love that made their wedding day so very special.
